Have you seen this yet ?
by troubled mind inmade my day watching this interview ( i have a different kind of sense of humor what can i say ) .
but notice his first statement and then later at the end he says he has no family or friends that he grew up with because he is dead to them all ...sounds familiar.

Books that make you go hmm....
by jgnat init's occurred to me that i have been reshaped by the books i have read, taking my new knowledge for granted, and forgetting that those around me have not been on the same journey.
as a consequence sparks fly, as iron sharpening iron, as we strive to understand each other (or to insist that we are not the same).
there are a few books that stand out, as i refer to them over and over again.

Hello??
by franticfran ini have just joined this website and just wanted to say hello to anyone out there.
i am so nervous, after thirty odd years in the "truth" i feel as though my husband and i have just walked into a room full of smiling strangers and we are just standing here hoping to god someone will come up and speak to us.
scared and excited and hoping to wake up one morning and not wonder what we do now???

I just went back and read your very first post on Flippers thread about 'When was your last meeting " , I had to laugh because you said you felt as if someone was still looking over your shoulder while posting on here . I remember feeling that very same way too ! It takes awhile to readjust .
I also appreciated your comment about how you felt the 'Control' in the Society seems to be increasing . In our case we had been always been faithful ,quite followers in the congregation ,but as soon as an issue arose that we had to take a stand on...watch out ....it felt like the Elders starting putting screws down on us ,and our kids, even for very minor things . It was if they had to prove to us who was in charge ....and well that backfired big time on them .
There has been such an increase in new ones posting here the past few months ....is it mainly the change in doctrine beliefs or is it the increase of control over the members that is waking people up ?

Welcome Fran ,
You have found a good place to land ,lots of great people on this board with familiar stories and listening ears . My husband and I walked away seven yrs ago . I was in from birth untill 44 . It was overwhelming at first ,but it gets Much ,much better !!!! Give yourself time to adjust and expect to go through some ups and downs ,and some major emotions That is all very normal .
Personal messages are sent by clicking on the envelope icon at the top right of this page . Sometimes to read a message you may have to go back and forth a few times before it opens ,but don't hesitate to get to know people more personally by private messages .
It took me about three good years to finally feel free from the Watchtower effects .Several times I just wanted to speak to another person that could relate so I have exchanged phone numbers with others on here . Do whatever you need to do to adjust to 'normal' life ,just realize it IS possible .
THere are days I find myself driving alone in my car just smiling because life is just so much more happier now ! The weight of 'doing more' is gone . The constant pressure of managing Witness life is done . Slowly we have made new friends that we stay busy with ,laugh and enjoy life with ,you will too .One of my new friends taught me to never turn down an invitation ,that is how you rebuild your circle of friends ,it works .
Good luck to you and your family ,looking forward to hearing more of your story .

My Mother taught me to always think of the other person's point of view . She would say 'put yourself in their shoes before you judge '.

Why did you pick the name you have now
by label licker injust wondering if your name describes what you saw, how you were treated when you were "in" or now "out", maybe your personality, ect.... i'm label licker and the why i picked this name was because of all the licking up one side of elders and down the other to either be an elder or ministerial servant.
one time i was standing right in front of this brother who wasn't made an ms yet and he totally ignored me and talked right over my head speaking really loud trying to catch the co's attention.. got sick of watching the poor elderly sitting all alone or standing against the wall like a wall flower with noone to talk to and yet all these label lickers would take turns picking up the elders elderly parents and take them shopping and do their groceries at least four times a week while out in service, yet, there was noone there to take a meal to a sister who just got out of the hospital with a heart attack.
when i had shown up at her apartment with a meal she asked if i could wash her private and change her bandages.
